Umbrella dryer

A workshop in collaboration with Braun, where we dismantled their products to extract key components for redesign. We created an umbrella dryer for public spaces to help people quickly dry their umbrellas indoors, preventing water drips and reducing plastic bag waste.
Product Disassemble
We started by disassembling and analyzing Braun’s MultiGrill, studying the function and material of each component. We selected the heating element as a key part for our redesign, and also extracted a motor from a blender.
Produt Design
The product has an upward-tapered cylindrical shape, standing 960mm tall. A fan at the bottom blows hot air to dry the umbrella when inserted, while remaining water collects in a transparent reservoir at the base. A sensor in the center detects the umbrella, with a ring of indicator lights showing the working status. The bottom houses the air inlet and power supply.
Mechanism
Air enters from the bottom, where a fan powered by a motor directs it through a heating plate to produce warm airflow for drying umbrellas. All key components are integrated into the base, and the heat from the plate also helps evaporate residual water in the tank.
