Dear Apple Industrial Design Group:

Hello! My name is Tieyi Hu, I’m a 21 years old industrial designer currently in my senior year in university.

I’m very much passionate about industrial design and sees it as my life pursuit. And like many, this passion was partly inspired by Apple. I was not only inspired by apple products, how they change and shaped the world, or how you brilliantly combine concise forms, elegant materials and innovative manufacturing methods. But I was more inspired by things I see behind the products, the way you designed every detail, from the black inside of a product to the small metallic paint on the iPhone box, which shows ever so clearly the care from designers behind them, that’s the thing been seen so rarely in products. And the way you design, thinking things from the ground up, really taking the time to do things right, and working collaboratively as a small group. I believe this is the environment that can help designers to deliver their best works, and the best imaginable place to work even in my wildest dreams.

As a designer, I share Apples pursuit to detail, I believe every detail, even the tiniest, deserves the same amount of care and should be taken whatever amount of time and effort to make it as perfect as possible. And I not only care about how things look, but also how things work and manufactured, I always design things with consideration of their feasibility and structure and has many experiences making physical protypes. I understand that it’s not only abouts designing the product itself, but also designing and exploring the manufacture process, learning new things, and finding creative solutions to realize them, and I’m very excited about that. Also, I love Apple products and consumer electronics in general, as you maybe can see from my portfolio, so I have a rather deep understanding of how things are designed and works in this category, driven by this passion, I’m very eager to learn new things as needed.

Working as an industrial designer at the Apple Design Team has always been my dream and has always motivated me during my journey learning industrial design. I hope my works in my portfolio and website can make me a potential candidate for working with you, but I do understand that I’m rather a beginner in industrial design and you receive applications from many very talented designers around the world. So, if it’s possible, some advice on what should I works on to increase my chance of working at apple or even just a reply says that you’ve seen my portfolio would be a dream come true.

Thank you!

Sincerely yours,
Tieyi Hu
